Kolkata Police To Act Tough Against Violators Of Firecracker Ban

Kolkata Police will take strict action against anybody found bursting firecrackers in violation of the Calcutta HIgh Court's ban on sale and use of all kinds of fireworks during Diwali and Chhath Puja, a senior official said on Saturday. Kolkata Police Commissioner Soumen Mitra held a meeting during the day with all deputy commissioners and other senior officers of the force and directed them to ensure that the ban is strictly implemented. "There will be tight surveillance throughout the city, and we would take strict action as per the law against the violators, the official said. The Calcutta High Court had on Friday ordered a ban on the sale and use of all firecrackers during Diwali, Chhath Puja and other festivities to check air pollution amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Hurricane Rick Heads Toward Mexico''s Pacific Coast

Mexico City (AP) Hurricane Rick headed for Mexico's southern Pacific coast Sunday and was forecast to reach land by Monday morning. The US National Hurricane Center said Rick had winds as high as 85 miles per hour (140 kph) and was expected to hit somewhere around the seaport of Lazaro Cardenas and the resort of Zihuatanejo. However, the hurricane's winds and rain could also affect the larger resort of Acapulco to the east. The hurricane was centred about 95 miles (155 kilometers) south of Zihuatanejo at midafternoon and was moving north at 5 mph (7 kph). Hurricane Rick Gains Force Off Mexico's Pacific Coast

Mexico City (AP) Hurricane Rick gathered force Saturday off Mexico's southern Pacific coast and is forecast to hit reach land by Monday as a Category 3 storm. The US National Hurricane Center said Rick may become a major hurricane with winds as high as 120 miles per hour (195 kph) before hitting land somewhere between the seaport of Lazaro Cardenas and Manzanillo. The hurricane was located about 195 miles (315 kilometers) south of the coastal resort of Zihuatanejo. The storm had winds of 85 mph (135 kph), and was moving north-northwest at 7 mph (11 kph). The center warned Rick could produce flash flooding and mudslides. Nepalese National Raped In Delhi's Amar Colony Area

A Nepalese national has allegedly been raped by a man in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony area, police said on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Greater Kailash police station received information regarding sexual assault of a woman by a person known to her, they said. During inquiry, the place of incident was found to be within the jurisdiction of the Amar Colony police station, police said. Later, the Greater Kailash police came to the Amar Colony police station along with the complainant and her brother, and produced her statement, they said. On the basis of the complaint, her counselling report and existing circumstances, a case under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code was registered, a senior police officer said.
